Our vehicles are the heart and soul of our page! They enables us to get to the places we've read and dreamed about. But why two 4x4s? What's with the weird names we've dubbed our vehicles?
We never planned to have two 4x4's, it just kind of happened. In our About Us page you will have read that the Jimny purchase came about after Caroline was involved in an accident and her car was written off.

With the search on for a replacement vehicle, we started looking at different options when my dad suggested that we look at the Jimny (something I had been previously keen on but had somewhat forgotten about). I knew this would be the perfect vehicle to start to our adventure with. The only thing left to do was to convince Caroline. That was not difficult! With a visit to Suzuki we laid eyes on what would become our Louis.

With our new ride purchased we had to think of a name for our new little family member. Something fun but still offroad related. In the movie "Leap Year" there is a Louis Vuitton suitcase which becomes a running gag. When there is a worry about the suitcase getting dirty the main character says: "Don't worry about Louis! We'll throw him in the wash and he'll be grand!"
Well that is perfect for our little Jimny! We don't worry about him, we just throw him the wash every now and then and he is grand! :)
We had been on lots of adventures with our Jimny and having lots of fun making modifications to it. However my daily, an E36 BMW was getting old and giving issues. At the same time I came to learn of a Land Rover Defender going for a great price that I couldn't pass up. Coming from a Land Rover family I always wanted a Defender and being a pick up it was more suited to my job I had at the time. So with the argument of practicality and childhood dreams we purchased the Defender and sold my BMW.

With the Defender now in our possession, a name had to be given. Due to the Landy being quite old and needing more than a bit of TLC it was advertised as 'Voetstoots' a Dutch sale term meaning to be sold with the push of a foot. In other words to be sold as quickly as possible with no comebacks on the condition of vehicle or 'As Is". This 'Voetstoots' term was noted to me multiple times during the sale and so the name stuck. It might not be the most offroad/overland/explorer name but hey, we are Sheepish Overlander and weird names seems to be a running theme now :)
